Richardson Fire Station No.3

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The City of Richardson’s Fire Station No. 3 was commissioned to replace an outdated facility well past its useful life. The location was secured by the City after lengthy negotiations to acquire the property.

This new station is on a highly visible corner in an area being revitalized, so the design was very important to the local community. A tight budget in an escalating market made this a challenging assignment.

As you can see, the result lived up to these expectations. The project is one of the nicest fire stations in Richardson, and PPV is proud to have played a part in making this project a success.

UNIQUE PROJECT CHALLENGES

  • Prominent location and stakeholder expectations made a design with “curb appeal” important.

  • Extensive land negotiations with private developer to acquire property in “land swap” delayed the project.

  • Unusually expansive soils required foundation redesign, and creative solutions under schedule pressure.

  • High team expectations for the quality of the sealed concrete floor led to team to build structure first, then place and finish the slab. This approach was difficult, but led to great results.
